Experiments on Animals

Cosmetics, household cleaners, pharmaceuticals, and pesticides are still tested on animals in laboratories. Rabbits, mice, rats, dogs, and primates are forced to ingest substances, have chemicals applied to abraded skin, or undergo surgical procedures — often in pursuit of products with humane alternatives already available. South Africa’s regulatory framework permits animal testing for many product categories. Beauty Without Cruelty endorses brands that have proven their products are not tested on animals, supports the validation of non-animal testing methods, and campaigns for a national ban on cosmetic animal testing.
